There has been recent advances in genetic engineering, enzyme engineering and gene editing. The application of biotechnology in this area is often known as “white” biotechnology and encompasses the use of the microorganisms and enzymes for sustainable processing and production biobased. Industrial biotechnology has over $120 billion annual revenues in the US. Today the world enzyme market has grown to around $9 billion annually.
